What separates yoga from other forms of exercise is the constant and continual awareness of the breathing.  The breath is the link between the mind and the body.  Our breath affects how we feel, and how we feel affects our breath.  Rapid, shallow breathing, can be associated with stress and anxiety.  Deeper and slower breathing is associated with feeling calm and relaxed.  Deep, slow breaths are also much more effective at getting oxygen into the bloodstream, which helps to feel more alert and focused, and allows children to function at their best.  Yoga teaches you how to breathe fully, which helps you to stay focused, present and in control.
